Springfield general dentist installed November 6 at House of Delegates meeting.
Dr. Thomas (Tom) Stone, a general dentist from Springfield, Mo., was installed as the 153rd president of the MDA on November 6, 2021 at the Association’s House of Delegates meeting.
As MDA president, Dr. Stone will preside over each quarterly Board of Trustees meeting, but also represent the MDA at various component meetings and at events of other dental stakeholder groups. The MDA president also serves as an ex-officio member on the Missouri Dental Insurance Services Board (the MDA’s wholly-owned insurance agency) and as a voting member on the MDA Foundation Board (the MDA’s charitable arm).
Dr. Stone has a general dental practice in Springfield and is a 1990 graduate of the UMKC School of Dentistry. He has been an active member in the American Dental Association, MDA and Greater Springfield Dental Society for more than 30 years.
Leading to this office, Dr. Stone served as MDA Speaker, Trustee to the Board, Amalgam Best Management Practices Committee Chair and as a Delegate/Alternate Delegate to the House. Locally, he is a past president of the Greater Springfield Dental Society and of its Foundation. These are a few among many other service and leadership roles throughout his dental career.
He is a Fellow of the Pierre Fauchard Academy, the American College of Dentists and the International College of Dentists.
Dr. Stone’s other professional/civic involvement have included Ronald McDonald House Tooth Truck (board member and chairman; Tooth Truck Tailgate fundraiser chair); MDA Foundation Missions of Mercy Charitable Clinic (clinical routing lead 2011, 2013-2014); and, Donated Dental Services Program (participant and past committee member).
Dr. Stone lives in Springfield with his wife, Rachel, who is an Associate Pastor at the Campbell United Methodist Church in Springfield. They have three grown children, Andrew, Austin, Texas; William, Los Angeles; and Sarah, Durham, N.C.
