Welcome to the Greater Springfield Dental Society!

Thank you for visiting the Greater Springfield Dental Society website. Whether you are looking for services that are available in the Greater Springfield area, or are a dentist wanting to register for an event, we invite you to explore the site.

Our Mission

The mission of the Greater Springfield Dental Society is to fulfill our community responsibility by serving as the oral health advocate for our 16 county component area.

Dear Greater Springfield Dental Society Members,

I bring to you warm greetings and congratulations for overcoming the many challenges we have faced since early last year. The COVID-19 pandemic affected nearly every aspect of our personal and professional lives, yet we have emerged stronger having faced mandatory lockdowns, travel restrictions, and the dreaded toilet paper shortages. As dentists, I am confident we weathered the mandatory mask wearing better than most. Be encouraged that we will continue to persevere against COVID-19.

There has been a plethora of resources available to guide us as both civilians and dental professionals during this pandemic. At times it seemed there were too many conflicting voices, making it difficult to know which advice was best. As a civilian, the most local resource, namely your local Health Department, proved to be extremely helpful when it came to finding accurate information regarding COVID testing, quarantine guidelines, and vaccines.

As a dental professional, the ADA and MDA proved themselves to be invaluable. These organizations gave us thorough return-to-work guidelines, PPE requirements, and continue to give us updates regarding vaccines and OSHA requirements, helping us to best protect ourselves and our patients. Membership in the ADA and MDA is vital to help these organizations better support us and our profession. In addition to membership, contributing to MODentPAC gives dentistry the legislative and political advocacy it needs at the state and national levels.

Please take advantage of the many resources offered by the ADA, MDA and the Greater Springfield Dental Society. We are glad to help our dental community navigate through the recovery process and to achieve success. I am grateful for the opportunity to serve and welcome any and all feedback.

Thank you, Dr. Jacob Pack

The OSHA Bloodborne Pathogen Standard requires that employers who have employees with occupational exposure to blood and other potential infectious material provide training for those employees annually. This training must take place within 12 months of the previous training on the standard. This program will fulfill as much of the annual training requirements as possible. The standard contains fifteen elements that must be addressed in the training, and the program will cover fourteen of them. The major exception is that the standard does not require an annual review of the employer’s exposure control plan. This portion of the requirement will need to occur in the participants’ individual office setting. However, a discussion of the elements required in all plans will be included.

Course Objectives:

  • Understand the principles of infection control
  • Be aware of safety issues involved in dental care
  • Be able to apply modern infection control principles
  • Be knowledgeable about requirements of the OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Standards
  • Be able to critically analyze different methods for instrument decontamination
