Welcome to the Greater Springfield Dental Society!

Thank you for visiting the Greater Springfield Dental Society website. Whether you are looking for services that are available in the Greater Springfield area, or are a dentist wanting to register for an event, we invite you to explore the site.

Our Mission

The mission of the Greater Springfield Dental Society is to fulfill our community responsibility by serving as the oral health advocate for our 16 county component area.

Dear Greater Springfield Dental Society Members,

It is an absolute honor to serve you and the community as the new GSDS President. The end of the first quarter and start of the second quarter of 2020 has definitely been a whirlwind with the impact of the Coronavirus pandemic and temporary closure of our dental practices. Now more than ever is the time for our society to stand together, support each other, and realize the importance of organized dentistry. I strongly encourage you to look towards the ADA and MDA for guidance on re-opening your practice, providing dental care to your patients, and talking points with your team and patients to ensure their safety and security during these new times. Dentistry and how we operate is changing whether we like it or not, and we must accept the changes, adapt, and discover our new normal together. I look forward to serving our community in this capacity, and please know I am always available to help all of you at any time. Let's make the remainder of 2020 a successful and memorable year!

The OSHA Bloodborne Pathogen Standard requires that employers who have employees with occupational exposure to blood and other potential infectious material provide training for those employees annually. This training must take place within 12 months of the previous training on the standard. This program will fulfill as much of the annual training requirements as possible. The standard contains fifteen elements that must be addressed in the training, and the program will cover fourteen of them. The major exception is that the standard does not require an annual review of the employer’s exposure control plan. This portion of the requirement will need to occur in the participants’ individual office setting. However, a discussion of the elements required in all plans will be included.

Course Objectives:

  • Understand the principles of infection control
  • Be aware of safety issues involved in dental care
  • Be able to apply modern infection control principles
  • Be knowledgeable about requirements of the OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Standards
  • Be able to critically analyze different methods for instrument decontamination
