Greater Springfield Dental Society - Message regarding COVID-19 from Board President, Dr. Brett Durbin

Dear Greater Springfield Dental Society Members:

This is certainly a time of turbulence in our dental practices and there is bound to be a lot of confusing messaging during such crises.  I wanted you to know (from me) that myself, as your representative, and our many other professional leaders have been busily working over numerous conference calls and correspondences during this time in order to try and make sure the most up-to-date and accurate information is available for you, our member dentists.  We know that each of you must be prepared to lead your patients, office team members and families in making the best decisions and we are working hard behind the scenes to make sure you have the information you need at your disposal to make the tough decisions necessitated by the COVID-19 outbreaks in our local community.

Yesterday, during a White House Press Conference (time index 1:06:10), President Trump’s coronavirus response coordinator, Dr. Deborah Birx, made a specific request addressed to “hospitals and dentists” I simply want you to be aware of.

Also of recent development, last night the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services released the following guidelines for dental practice in the state. They will be a helpful resource to consult in your practice decision-making. These dental-specific guidelines are also available, along with the answers to many other frequently asked questions and other resources, on the Missouri Dental Association and American Dental Association websites.

I want to speak to you personally and say that I know there is commonly a temptation to succumb to a certain melancholy during times such as these.  This is even, to some degree, warranted as there will be some harder times ahead, certainly harder than we have enjoyed over the past few prosperous years.  Nevertheless, my wish to each of you is that you might feel encouraged that this too will pass away.  We are blessed to live in a strong, secure nation in a community of particularly good people and occupy a wonderful profession.  All will be truly well.

My thoughts and prayers are with each of you as we continue to lean on one another while weathering this global crisis. Reach out to me, Jean or the MDA staff at any time, we are here for you!

Please note that our upcoming programs on March 25 and April 3 (OSHA) have been cancelled.  We will reschedule as soon as possible.
